EXILE BOOKS is a temporary installation of an artist’s bookstore that will migrate throughout several locations in Miami, spending approximately 3-6 weeks housed in each location.

EXILE evolves thematically at each venue, presenting a curated selection of titles paired with public programing including lectures, performances, workshops, and events.

The bookstore is dedicated to raising awareness about artist’s publications and will serve as a platform for exchange, grounded in the spirit of collaboration.

In partnership with Printed Matter, the core inventory will represent a diverse cross section of artist’s books and publications. Additional materials will be selected to compliment the theme for each location, with an emphasis on local artists and publishing houses.

EXILE BOOKS will premiere on 13 September 2014 at Locust Projects in collaboration with painter Sarah Crowner, focusing on the history of theater, the materiality of the stage, and movement.

An audio track will be created by Sari Carel.

Peter London Global Dance Company will choreograph a dance piece that responds to the installation, rehearsals will be open to the public, and the final piece will be performed on site at the closing reception October 9.

EXILE seeks to engage the public in nontraditional environments and unconventional ways. We are currently in discussion with historic homes, community gardens, restaurants and hotels, the planetarium, an old theater, and a local bookstore chain which will connect with such diverse subject matters as history and identity, nature, food, design/architecture, mysticism/astrology/metaphysics, sound/performance art, and the lineage of artist’s books in general. EXILE BOOKS is a project conceived and executed by Miami based artist, Amanda Keeley.
